Atrophaneura alcinous (Chinese Windmill)

Atrophaneura alcinous, also called Chinese Windmill is a butterfly from the Palaearctic ecozone (Asia). The first description was in 1836 by Klug. The wingspan is about 9 – 10 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. Atrophaneura alcinous is black. It has yellow or red spots on its hind wings. The underside of the body has yellow or red hairs. The female is dark-brown or black.



Ecozone

Atrophaneura alcinous is from Palaearctic (Asia) and Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia), but its biggest distribution is in Asia.
