Atrophaneura nevilli (Nevill´s Windmill)

Atrophaneura nevilli, also called Nevill´s Windmill is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1882 by Wood-Mason. The wingspan is about 9 – 10 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. Atrophaneura nevilli is black. It has white and red spots. The underside of the body has red hairs. The females are dark-brown or black.

Description
The fore wings are black. The veins partly bordered by brown colour.
The underside of Atrophaneura nevilli is very similar to the upside. The basic colour is dark-brown.
The hind wings of Atrophaneura nevilli are black and they have tails. The edge is wavy. At the edge there are two white spots and four red spots.
The underside is very similar to the upside.
The body (abdomen) is black. Head and thorax are black. The head and some parts of the underside of abdomen have red hairs.
Sex differences: The female covers the upper range of the wing-span. The basic colour of the female is dark-brown or black.
Distribution
Atrophaneura nevilli is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly in China.
