The genus ORNITHOPTERA was described in 1832 by Boisduval. It contains at present about 13 species. The genus ORNITHOPTERA is a small group of PAPILIONIDAE. ORNITHOPTERA butterflies are from AUSTRALASIA-INDOMALAYA.
The biggest butterfly on earth is a member of this genus. These butterflies are green, blue, red and gold.
All of them are also called birdwing-butterflies. Birdwings are wonders of nature and we have to protect them.
