Graphium agetes (Fourbar Swordtail)

Graphium agetes, also called Fourbar Swordtail is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1843 by Westwood. The wingspan is about 6 – 7 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of Graphium agetes is white or yellowish. Four black bars dominate the fore wing.

Description

The fore wings are yellowish. The outer edge is black. Four black bars dominate the wing.
The underside of Graphium agetes is very similar to the upside.

The hind wings of Graphium agetes are yellowish and they have long tails. The edge is wavy. The outer edge of the wing and the tail are black. Two black bars are one the wing. At the inner edge there is a black eye with a red eye-shadow.   
The underside is very similar to the upside. But, the black bar in the middle of the wing contains a red sinus-line 

The body (abdomen) is yellow-black-striped. The thorax and the head are also yellow and black.

Distribution

Graphium agetes is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly from the South of China and Myanmar until Indonesia.

The first description of this butterfly was in 1843 by Westwood. There are four subspecies.
