Graphium bathycles (Veined Jay)

Graphium bathycles, also called Veined Jay is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1831 by Zinker. The wingspan is about 6 – 7 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of Graphium bathycles is darkbrown or black. There are many, yellow spots on the wings.

Description

The fore wings are darkbrown or black. At the outer edge there is a chain of little yellow spots. There is also a chain of little yellow spots at the inner edge. In the middle of the wing there is a chain of big yellow spots.
The underside of Graphium bathycles is very similar to the upside. But, all spots are whitish.

The hind wings of Graphium bathycles are darkbrown or black. The edge is wavy. At the outer edge there is a chain of little yellow spots. Next to the body there is a big yellow area with black veins. In the middle of the wing there is a lone, tiny, yellow spot. 
The underside is very similar to the upside. But, there are some additional orange spots. 

The body (abdomen) is black. The thorax and the head are also black. The underside of all parts is yellow.

Distribution

Graphium bathycles is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly from the South of China and Myanmar until Indonesia and the Philippines.
