Graphium mandarinus

Graphium mandarinus is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1879 by Oberthür. The wingspan is about 7 – 8 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of Graphium mandarinus is white. Black stripes dominate the wings.

Description

The fore wings are white. Many black stripes dominate the wing.
The underside of Graphium mandarinus is very similar to the upside. But, the basic colour is yellowish.

The hind wings of Graphium mandarinus are white and they have tails. The edge is wavy. Some black stripes dominate the wing. The back part of the wing is black and it contains some blue spots. At the inner edge there is a blue eye with orange eye-shadow.  
The underside is very similar to the upside. But, the basic colour is yellowish.

The body (abdomen) is gray. The thorax and the head are also gray. The underside of all parts is yellowish.

Distribution

Graphium mandarinus is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly from Nepal until West-China.

General information

The first description of this butterfly was in 1879 by Oberthür. There is only one subspecies.
