Graphium nomius (Spot Swordtail)

Graphium nomius, also called Spot Swordtail is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1799 by Esper. The wingspan is about 6 – 7 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of Graphium nomius is white. Black stripes dominate the wings.

Description

The fore wings are white. Five black stripes dominate the wing. The outer edge of the wing is black and contains a chain of white spots.
The underside of Graphium nomius is very similar to the upside. But, the basic colour is yellowish. And the stripes and the outer edge are brown.

The hind wings of Graphium nomius are white and they have long tails. The edge is wavy. In the middle of the wing there are two black stripes. A red band from the underside of the wing shine-through the wing. The outer edge is black and contains a chain of white spots.   
The underside is very similar to the upside. But, the basic colour is yellowish. Next to the wing there is a brown stripe. The outer edge is brown. A red band dominates the wing.

The body (abdomen) is black. The thorax and the head are black-yellow-striped. The underside of the abdomen is yellow.

Distribution

Graphium nomius is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly from India until Malaysia.
