Graphium tynderaeus (Green-spotted Swallowtail, Grüngefleckter Schwalbenschwanz)

Graphium tynderaeus , also called Green-Spotted Swallowtail  is a nice butterfly from Afrotropic ecozone (Africa). The first description was in 1793 by Fabricius. With a wingspan of 8.0 – 10.0 cm the Green-Spotted Swallowtail is a small member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The butterfly is black with green spots. Hind wings have no tails.

Description

The forewings are black. At the margin there is a chain of small green spots. In the middle of wing there is a chain of big green spots. An the wing leading edge there are some green spots.
The underside is a copy of upside, but the ground is dark brown and marmorate.

The hind wings are black and have no tails. The margin is ridged. At the margin there is a chains of uneven green spots. Nearby the body there is a broad green area.

Distribution

The Green Spotted Swallowtail (Graphium tynderaeus ) is a butterfly of the Afrotropic ecozone (Africa). The distribution extend from Liberia and Nigeria to Central African Republic and Angola.
