Graphium xenocles (Great Zebra)

Graphium xenocles, also called Great Zebra is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1842 by Doubleday. The wingspan is about 8 – 11 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of Graphium xenocles isblack. Many white spots and stripes dominate the wings.

Description
The fore wings are black. At the outer edge there is a chain of little, white spots. In the middle of the wing there is a chain of white stripes. At the front edge there are some white stripes.
The underside of Graphium xenocles is very similar to the upside. But, the basic colour is brown.
The hind wings of Graphium xenocles are black. The edge is wavy. At the outer edge there are some little, white spots. Next to the body there is a white area with black veins. At the inner edge there is a yellow eye-spot.

This butterfly mimics Parantica melaneus.
