Papilio eurymedon (Pale Tiger Swallowtail)

Papilio eurymedon, also called Pale Tiger Swallowtail is a butterfly from Nearctic ecozone (North America). The first description was in 1852 by Lucas. The wingspan is about 9 – 10 cm. Papilio eurymedon is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of this butterfly is white or yellowish with black stripes. The hind wings have tails.

Description

The forewings are white or yellowish. Four broad, black stripes dominate the wing. The outer edge is black and contains a chain of little white or yellowish spots.
The underside of Papilio eurymedon is very similar to the upside. But, the stripes and the outer edge are dark brown.

The hind wings of Papilio eurymedon are white or yellowish and they have tails. The edge is wavy. In the middle of the wing there are two black stripes. The outer edge is black and contains a chain of white or red spots. At the inner edge there is a blue-black-red eye-spot and a blue spot.
The underside is very similar to the upside. But, the stripes and the outer edge are dark brown. At the outer edge there is an additional chain of blue spots.

The body (abdomen)
 is black. The thorax is black and has two white stripes. The head is black. The underside of all parts is brown and has white stripes.

Papilio eurymedon is a butterfly from the Nearctic ecozone (North America). The area of ​​distribution of this butterfly stretches from Canada (British Columbia) to Mexico (Baja California).
