Papilio iswara

Papilio iswara is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1842 by White. The wingspan is about 12 – 13 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. Papilio iswara is black. A yellow area dominates the hind wings.

Description

The fore wings are black. 
The underside of Papilio iswara is nearly a copy of upside. The basic colour is dark-brown. At the wing leading edge the veins are yellow. At the outer edge there are many, yellow stripes.

The hind wings of Papilio iswara are black and they have tails. The edge is wavy. The wing is dominated by a broad, yellow area. At the inner edge there is a diffuse eye spot. 
The underside is dark-brown. The wing is dominated by a three large yellow spots. Next to the body the wing is spotted by yellow scales. At the outer edge there are three yellow spots. At the inner edge there are two eye-spot. 

The body is black, but the underside is dark-brown.

Papilio iswara is a butterfly from the Australasia / Indomalaya (Australia) ecozone. You can observe this butterfly in Indonesia.
