Papilio palamedes (Laurel Swallowtail)

Papilio palamedes, also called Laurel Swallowtail is a butterfly from Neotropic ecozone (South America). The first description was in 1770 by Drury. The wingspan is about 9 – 11 cm. Papilio palamedes is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. The basic colour of this butterfly is dark brown or black. Yellow bands and spots dominate the wings. The hind wings have tails.



Ecozone

Papilio palamedes is primary a butterfly from the Neotropic ecozone (South America). But, you can also observe this butterfly in the South of USA (Nearctic ecozone).
